PROS AND CONS OF HIRING EXPERIENCED AND INEXPERIENCED STAFF



Human resources professionals are always keen on employing based on quality and employing the best candidate for the job. One would generally conclude that the employer will definitely employ the candidate with the highest number of relevant experience. That is not always the case because finding quality does not necessarily mean the number of years in experience of a particular job but rather finding the best fit for the job. The best fit includes; general attitude, behavior, culture in and around the work environment and some other specific details. Some employers still stick with the minimum number of years of experience from potential employees while sometimes, an inexperienced individual is employed. The thought comes to mind of what the benefits of employing an inexperienced individual are over an experienced person.

However, employing either experienced or inexperienced personnel comes along with their unique advantages and disadvantages.

Pros:

An experienced employee knows the job. An experienced employee has come across most of the hassles and obstacles that come with the job and would have learned various techniques to tackle any difficulties that may arise in the course of doing the job. An experienced employee would know how to effectively use the tools or software required to get the job done. Experienced employees also have a career to maintain and as such, an experienced employee would know the value of the job at hand. An experienced employee is also good at handling pressure on the job based on previous experiences.


Cons:

Most experienced employees are difficult to manage, rigid and have a streamlined approach to solving problems. Experienced employees also demand high salaries and may cost the company so much. Experienced employees might not be open to learning new ways to get the job done because they trust the good old ways that have always produced desired results.

Pros:

Inexperienced staff is passionate to work; they tend to work harder to impress the employer. They possess high productivity and they are versatile, adapting new and improved techniques on how to get the job done. Inexperienced employees are easy to manage because they have a more sincere attitude to work, they are willing to add extra to make sure they contribute and that comes in as an advantage when the organization is faced with difficulties in production. Inexperienced employees do not demand high salaries but they are willing to do more work just to get recognition and that is a plus to the organization.


Cons:

Inexperienced employees lack stability, most times they take up the job without having a clear vision and are ready to switch to companies that offer a better opportunity. Inexperienced employees also lack the skills and knowledge about the job and are not usually conversant with the tools or software required to get the job done. Inexperienced employees cannot handle pressure on the job due to a lack of experience. Some inexperienced employees also posses indiscipline and may not know how to properly behave in the workplace.
